Chainsaws

Rainy days. It has been like this all week and the forecast is for more. It is not especially cold, but it is enough to want to stay cosy and warm indoors.

It is the end of the cold seasons and the wood pile is gone. A few logs remain. This morning I put the 90cm bar on the 592XP (not a 572XP) for a 1.4m log. First thing stabilise the log and ensure I am not putting the saw in the dirt. The groundsman is there for safety, but he still gets a laugh out of little me and that big saw. I bought it without seeing it and I had no idea how big it was at the time. First cut down the middle along the grain, across the log in 40cm slices, then halve each piece. Even quartered the pieces were too much for me (estimated 100kg each) and I had to halve them again to roll them to the splitter. We cut and split 3m from that log. Something like 2.7-3t of wood in a couple of hours.
I had planned a weights session in the gym this afternoon, but I don't think I need that now.
