2023 Scooter Cannonball

I know a few people who will be running it this year. The route goes through my regular riding area.

There are some really hard core riders who do the cannonball. One of the most impressive was a guy who, back in 2021, rode his Super Cub from CA to Maine for the start of the cannonball and then turned around and rode the cannonball back to CA. That Cannonball was 4500 miles in 10 days. He finished second. Here's his story: https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/another-journey-of-solace.1508893/

The scooter Cannonball will start off in San Clemente on Sunday as it heads for the east coast. Day 9 runs through my local riding area in Southern middle Tennessee and Northeastern Alabama on Saturday 6/24 so I plan on watching. I know some of the participants and will be cheering them on.

More info on the event is here: https://scootercannonball.com/

not related but near one of the stops at Miami, OK is this event. i went to it last year. guess there was another event that weekend as all the hotels were booked. even the casino hotel was booked. i got lucky as there was a last minute cancellation while i was in a hotel lobby calling other hotels.

edit: went there on the xmax in case anyone was wondering.

Is it just me or did anyone get checkpoint 1? I've not seen it on anyones photos. Since this is my first time following, I know I've got a lot to learn.

I followed last time but I don't remember how they did the checkpoint pics. I do remember that the results really weren't accurate until very late in the day or the next morning. The results you see right now don't really mean anything. It takes a while to figure out the final score for the day. I still don't know exactly how the scoring works but i remember from last year that the results from the evening would often have changed by early the next morning even though everyone was done riding for the day.

There were around twice as many as last year. The number keeps getting smaller every day as riders drop out for various reasons. I'm looking forward to day 7 on Saturday as I will head up into TN and watch then come by.
Please post some pics!

I know the desert is hot but I think the Plains will be harder because it doesn't cool down as much at night.

Anyway, it's a lot of fun following everyone. I can't believe DaBinche is riding it again! That guy's stamina is really impressive.

He shredded a belt on day one and changed it in the desert and still finished 11th. After day three he is in 6th place. I'll bet he finishes in the top 5, maybe as high as 3rd. I don't see him catching the two front runners unless something happens to them.

The guy currently in the lead gets on the road real early, before everyone else. That would be #555, a rookie on a Burgman 200.

Quasimotard #103 is on a trailer. He has parts on the way (Variator, clutch, belt, ...). The chat implies he is putting it all OEM.
But that will be tomorrow evening. Poor PCX is on a trailer being towed by a Prius....so embarrassing :lol3

Hondas just do better with OEM parts. I know a couple who rode the TAT on Groms. The things that failed were the aftermarket shocks they installed. I just haven't heard good things about the reliability of aftermarket Variators or belts. The only aftermarket parts I would consider would be some sliders.

Looks like there was a major shakeup for today's cannonball run. What happened?
