As of this week, there are no permits available at Kay's country store or Casey's in Sparta. Permits are only available at the district office in Ava. And they are only open on weekdays. If you are traveling on a weekend and aren't aware of this situation, you will not be able to ride, and law enforcement is cracking down and checking permits. You can purchase online, but need to do so several days ahead, as they will be mailed to you.
