Added the GS handguards with generic mounts.





Also added aux lights.

Got the lights bolted on, fun hiding the nut inside the tube of the crash bars.


Replaced the broken turn signal light stalks with new ebay knock-offs. I had to cut off the plugs from the originals and solder them on the new lights. They look great.



Lastly, I used electrolysis to derust the tank. It worked really well. Once done I flushed it with 2-stroke gas to stop the flash rust.

Waiting on the fuel pump I decided to dress the plastic parts. They were looking a little dull. I always use this and let is sit several days, then wipe it down again with a clean dry towel.

It will last more than a year outside, even through many washings. It flattens out a little so it isn't super shiny.

Added some, hopefully appropriate, stripes to the Givi panniers. I will add the logos to the circular indents when they come in. I think it ties it together.

I did the same thing with an old Honda XL600R fuel tank. I used an old phone charger and let it brew for a few days,. The sacrificial allen wrench didn't fare so well, the process worked great. My wife started calling me the mad scientist with that and the rejuvenation of old hardened carburetor boots using Wintergreen oil & isopropyl alcohol. Sometimes you do what ya gotta do!

It runs! The new $30 pump and filter came in today. Cleaned it all up and installed it and it started immediately.

Tires mounted and balanced, and added a nicer front fender extender!









Also my GS tires.

Took the tank off, again, and shuffled a couple of handfuls of large nuts around in a half quart of gas to get the rest of the loose scale out. Definitely worth it. The mesh filter was already dirty, so I changed it out. I have two more.





Popped it all together and it fired right up and ran smoothly. Looks pretty good too!

Once charged and installed I am up for a ride.

After charging the new battery it tested at 13.4 volts static, so pretty good. Cleaned up the seat and all ready for the test ride tomorrow.
