How's that for a long thread title?

So..... anyway, three of us are hitting the TAT very soon and I was wondering if there is an easy way to chronicle our trip (mainly via photos) as we are traveling?

Looking for something quick and easy that multiple people can post pictures to, and we can easily share with friends/family.

I have a smug mug account, and I can create a group folder that we can all post to while on the road, but it only holds pictures...no verbage to go along. It also just throws all of the pictures in one big folder... won't be very user friendly once we get a bunch of photos in it.

I know that most people are going to suggest Instagram. Hoping to use a non-facebook product.

I definitely don't want to try and keep a live ride report from the road. Too slow trying to type on my phone.

Just want a way to capture highlights every day or so and be able to share them.

Thanks!

Absolutely the best way is to do a ride report on a forum like this one where you can post pics directly. Too slow to type on your phone? So what. You don't have to type much, or anything. While I think a ride report is much better with some writing along with the pics, just post pics if that is too much work. This way your pics will all be in order and you can see what day you posted them. If it will be all pics then start a thread in the ride and trip pics section, not ride reports.

The other option is a photo hosting site like SmugMug but that costs money.

I see no downside to using this forum compared to posting someplace else.

Of course you do need internet access but that would be true for other sites as well.

Another option is to bring a tablet or small laptop and everyone download their pics to that.

The problem with using ADVBikes while on the road is I would first have to upload my pictures to my smug mug account, and then cut-n-paste all of the links over here.

Too troublesome to try and do on my phone.

I'm not taking a tablet or laptop along... keeping things simple.

Once we are back, and I'm in front of a full sized keyboard, that's the time to post stuff here.

I want a "quick and simple" solution to use on the road.

The primary goal is to enjoy and experience fully the trip. Being able to share along the way only works if it doesn't detract from the trip.

Why can't you post pics directly from your phone to the forum? It works for me.

It took me less than 30 seconds to upload this pic from my phone.

It is just as easy to upload a pic to this forum as it is to upload it anywhere else that I can think of.

I do what Klav says - but I also carry a small laptop with me as well.
Maybe posting to a facebook page is easier? Just create a page for the ride only and allow access to it from others. I have no idea how easy that is - might be difficult from a phone.
But be sure to do a ride report when you get home.

Posting on FB is no easier than posting here. Actually this is easier and much better for keeping things organized and being able to go back and find things. I see no advantage to FB whatsoever. I only use FB because my non riding friends are on it.

I often take a small laptop because I take most of my pics with a camera and not my phone. I can't post directly from my camera to any site so I download the pics to my laptop and then to the site. However, if I want to upload a pic immediately for something like a tag game then I take the pic with my phone and upload directly. That works with both FB as well as forums like this that allow direct uploads of pics. Many older forums don't have this feature.

I do find that other than posting pics directly most things are easier to do from a computer. I would never consider doing a ride report from my phone. However, writing a few sentences about the days ride and then posting a bunch of pics would be pretty easy.

I just took a quick look for apps that will allow everyone involved in an event to share a pool of photos from multiple users in one gallery.

The first app I found that seemed to fit the bill is called Share Your Photos, it's in the Google play store, and it's free.

What advantage would this have over using the forum?

If iPhones are being used, simply create a shared album in Apple Photos where everyone can save their photos. You can also generate a link that can be given to others so they can view the photos. Only downside is that photos in a shared album will not display location and other metadata because of Apple's weird privacy concerns.

I didn't mean to suggest that it'd be better than a forum thread.

One rider may have a story but no photos, another rider may have the photos, some are better storytellers and some are better with a camera. This type of pooled photo sharing can add quite a bit to a ride report when everyone's photos go into a shared gallery in the order they were taken.

We'll combine photos when we get back. Just looking for a simple way of posting a few highlight pictures each day.

I normally link any pictures I post here (and on other forums). Most forums have a pretty low number of pics you can upload directly.

Anyone know the photo upload limit per post?

I'm definitely NOT bringing along a computer.

My friends often use polarsteps.com I'm not sure if multiple people can post to it. Of course many people could use the same log-on to post their photos.

A couple of us are anti-facebook, so that's out.

Revzilla just put out a new video, sponsored by "Rever, where you can upload photos and share with your rider community" or something like that.

I swear, sometimes it's like they're reading our minds or something. :rofl
