I don't have a dog in this fight, but it seemed like the second half of the season, the refs started quietly determining who won the games.
I'd imagine there are people digging into the stats and referee backgrounds in an effort to give weight to those thoughts. They're right to do so. A few critical calls can be made in a way that's questionable on their own, but can be damning in context of the full picture.

The rash of obvious non- calls are the bigger concern in my mind.
Either way. Officials don't get to that level without understanding how crucial a call (or non-call) can be. With so much riding on their work, they should expect to be scrutinized.
more so, now that gambling has been legalized. It's a matter of time before congress steps in.
Jesus... hadn't even thought of the implications of gambling upon the refs until I read that. We could easily be back in the old days of the mafia here. All it takes is promises of being on paid 'advisory boards' after retirement - much like most of our national-level politicians and their staff get hired to (I know of one benefitting from his cabinet position - good guy, deserves it) - to sway games.
I’m not a gambler, but the real danger I see is in all of the side bets that are placed not including the winning and losing.
