What's new

Electric Motorcycle News.

Reminds me of all the hobbyking sourced parts years back. RC enthusiasts were building very fast bikes back then.

so long as the battery will get me to Starbucks and back, I’m in!
Starbucks is just about a 1/4 mile from my house. They made me park off to the side so the Harley's and the GS's could get the front parking.

The guy riding Zero I had the conversation with had some kind of deal with the company to ride the bike 15,000 miles in x amount of time. I don't remember the amount of time, but he was on his 2nd set of tires.

Honda plans on releasing an electric scooter in India early next year. Specs are unclear. It will use swappable batteries and they are building battery swap stations.

First images of the new Honda electric bikes have been published. I can hardly wait for the rest.

I rented Zero for few days before Covid hit. I was impressed with the bike. Size and power are nearly perfect, but the range estimate reminded me of a description of old PC software called Doublespace. PC Plus journalist described it in somewhat these words. "It starts by telling you you have 40 Mb of space left. When you try to copy 20 Mb into that space it starts copying. Then after a while it gleefully tells you you've run out of space." Substitute Km for Mb, riding for copying, and charge for space. Then you know exactly what I experienced.

I made a bid on 2014 Zero last September, to use for transport to work and home. I was a bit relieved when the bid was rejected, then went and spent less money on new Honda SH150i for the purpose.

I bought Zeros for our cycling club. Mostly escort duties and a buffer from traffic. (The club also has 1250RTs and head motoslave rides a K1600GTL). One Zero is used exclusively on the indoor track and never goes outside. Some were bought in 2018, some in 2022. My first impression was chassis and suspension was ordinary. Otherwise has a real bike size and power feel.

I keep a KTM Freeride E at my city apartment, two more here at home. 2014 with new batteries. Still great in the city or around home, but short range and not especially fast with 16kW.

Well NYFD almost made it 3 days and another e bike fire. 220 fires for 2022. 2023 has been a busy year. At least the experience level is higher for the emergency crews.

Underground wild west ebike scene is now a decade old. Nothing like a "green" pass

BMW seems to want to dip their toes into the electric motorcycle market. After making a scooter that looks like it was designed by a five year old, using Lego, they are looking at 125cc size, probably made in India.

Does anybody on this thread own an electric bike? Has anyone here ridden one ?

I have only seen one , a Zero , had a nice half hour conversation with the rider.
Excellent question. I'm curious about everyday experiences with the BMW CE 04. Dealers around here have them but I haven't seen a single one on the street.

While I'm still attached to my VFR at home and so far remain bike-less in Seoul, a few observations...

There is electric-everything here. And it probably helps that ordinary household outlets here are good for nearly three times to juice.

Re Friz' question, the BMW is as hideous up close as it was in glossy print. Actually there's a dealer a 15-minute walk from here so maybe I should take another look. Whoever thought of using a Yugo's donut spare as a rear wheel, though, probably oughta' be pilloried. Maybe I'll stop the next person I see to get some nitty gritty.

Finally our best and brightest scientist did it (probably asked ChatGPT). Now we can all relax. The future has been saved.
"Scientists hail new battery with 4 times energy density of lithium-ion" Hallelujah.

Legit news is full of announcements of great developments in battery tech that seem almost reminiscent of the 300 MPG carburetors.*

Unlike the 300 MPG carb, at least some of this can actually happen.

The problem is if mass manufacturing is practical, and when it could become possible.

But we're living with stuff now that only a decade or two ago was pretty much un-imaginable to many, so there is that.

* OK, sure, 300 MPG carbs are possible. On a kickboard...

Zero electric motorcycles are scheduled this quarter to start production of electric motorcycles in the Sta. Rosa, Laguna factory in the Philippines. These bikes will be mostly for the European and Asian markets.
This is in collaboration with Integrated Micro-Electronics Incorporated (IMI), which is a division of the Ayala (umbrella) Corporation. Ayala makes (through other divisions) small engine KTM bikes in the same facility.
The same deal means that lot of components for the bikes Zero makes in the US will now come from the same supplier in the Philippines.
Zero has recently raised capital from Polaris and Hero Motors.

The Stark Varg appears to be just as much of a killer as the original marketing materials, which is amazing. What a looker this bike is!! And Electric Cycle Rider is a very very skilled woods rider. For him to say you only really need it at half power for his riding...crazy to me.

Now the Varg is interesting at half the power.

The dual motor scooters are getting more power every new model year. The power is nice. The super class scoots are ridiculous. Maybe 100mph models will be out soon. These things can be death machines. Performance is not an issue.

The moto e bikes need ip ratings. The whole moto industry lags behind the speed of scooter innovation.
