This book is filled with amazing photos of the expedition by Frank Hurley.

I'm sure this back cover photo was staged, but damn he was a great photographer. There are some incredible night photos of the Endurance in the book. Like riding, it's not the camera, it's the photographer.

Pretty cool that they found the ship. I have read a couple of books about the expedition, may have to re-read one or find another, such an incredible accomplishment in the Roaring 40's and Furious 50's.

While the advertisement for "men wanted" is questioned by historians, I really like this quote ...

  • For a joint scientific and geographical piece of organization, give me Scott; for a Winter Journey, Wilson; for a dash to the Pole and nothing else, Amundsen: and if I am in the devil of a hole and want to get out of it, give me Shackleton every time.
    • The Worst Journey in the World (1922), Volume One, Preface, p. viii , Apsley Cherry-Garrard

That's one of my favorite books. Caroline Alexander's foreword from the Penguin edition is worth reading.
