Here in the US, real vengeance begins with the subsequent civil suit that will likely strip the driver of significant $$$$. And even if the bastard is broke, they'll be a judgement hanging out there waiting to scoop up any windfall he might receive.

It could be any of our kids / grand kids or even us back in the day, what gives the driver the right to do that to another person. Accident happen fair enough, but deliberate acts of violent aggression with potential loss of life or at the very least life changing injury.

With the impact at 42 mph on slick grass and the risky driving leading up to impact, I'd say everyone involved was lucky the rider or someone else wasn't maimed or killed. It's generally accepted that ramming another vehicle is a very high level of force given the risk of serious injury or death. Some form of an aggravated battery charge typically applies due to the intentional and/or reckless nature of the crime.

The sentence does seem annoying light. If the driver had exited his car and started firing a gun at the rider, his sentence would've undoubtedly been more serious. Substituting a speeding, out of control car for gunfire shouldn't decrease the sentence to that extent, in my opinion.

And balisticaly a 2 ton car at 42mph (60FPS) makes a .308w with a 150 grain bullet at 3400FPS look very under gunned, and the car is guided.
