Getting too old for two wheels, switching to three?

None of the 3 wheeled options work for me.... I had a friend who had a stroke. He was riding a GL 1500. He went to a trike or Can-Am Spider and he couldn't stand it. When I'm done on two wheels I'll go back to four

Well I went sidecar in my 40s and luv it. It is the asymmetrical challenge that makes it fun. I dont like the hack at highway speeds though. But in town or country roads are great. I almost look foward to full time hack riding. But hacks do keep you shape. So riding a light dualsport would be easy after the hack. In a few yrs my bike collection will change. And the heavier bikes will get replaced to lighter simple bikes. I said this in my 20s and 30s haha.

In my small town the answer is golf carts. Most are lifted with agressive tires and can go anywhere. But usually are kept out of the mud because of the cleaning. The town actually had to ordinance the carts on main street because it is a state rd. Mostly for paperwork. It was the most crowded town meeting ever.

Recently at the DMV I talked to a nice lady that explained that mowers were a grey area and no laws apply. So you can ride a mower almost anywhere. And with the deck removed a stock lightweight mower is one of my favorite woods vehicles.

Even with a deck I can get deep into the woods.

A mate once baught a Imported from the states Honda Nighthawk four a 650 i think it was, and it had been triked here in the uk with a Ford escort car axle at the rear rigid and decent welding. It looked ok, and he talked me into getting on the back for a ride up the road. Well as a pillion it was a frightening experience for me, i dont think we went above 45mph but it felt like 145MPH and i was just not feeling safe on that thing at all. I had a mental image of me waking up with the fire brigade cutting me free of the tangled tubing after it pitched us into a roll. I was so glad to get off that thing and get home unscathed.
Not for me trikes.

I put a Tow-Pac Trike Kit on one of my scooters (250cc) to help my wife return to riding after her spine surgery. It did exactly what it was supposed to do, but I hated it! It was tiring. She does not like the Slingshot and wants a Can-Am, but there's no room in the garage. We're waiting for the Kawa-Dealer to let us know when the promised Demo Days are announced. I much prefer the 2 in front compared to the 2 in back layout for braking. She'll decide and buy it if she likes it, but I really hope she doesn't like it. I'd rather just get a Miata.

I went to Kawasaki Demo rides last year and this year. They did not have any three wheelers.

The Kawasaki dealer carries Can-Am. She did a test-sit on a couple last month. Of course, she isn’t interested in the low priced Ryker, but wants the $$$ model.

All three of my local dealers are now multi-line "Powersports" dealers, I tend to refer to the former Kawasaki, Honda and Yamaha dealers by their original 70's names. Back when the dealerships also carried the owner's name and he/she was there every day.

They were such a huge part of my youth and it's an old habit. Yeah, I'm that old. :-)

The homemade trike the neighbor and I built had a stock 212cc hemi predator engine as the initial build. Gokart cradle matched to a bmx front end. The engine is left side drive only. Coasting it handles great. But under load is like the worst sidehack ever. This ended up in clockwise backyard racing. And the fastest of any bikes. Most trail rides were right off idle. This was a beast to control. For some reason we never hooked up brakes. The engine was swapped for a 99cc and a govenor over ride because of a stuck throttle. And the confidence increased with the less scary setup. This ended with a few crashes. This setup runs 42mph. Has about 50 hrs on it. Kinda famous in our small town.

Trikes need to be short wheelbase for fun. The long trikes will be vague. Either setup has problems. But this takes more effort than 2 wheels. I have tried every bike on the same trail. Also stock and modded mowers. The easiest is a bmx style beach cruiser with a 66cc engine kit. This is trail use not street though.

I still back a morgan from my backyard expiraments. It has to do with center of gravity while being on 3 wheels. Asymmetrical or not. Reverse or forward. Unfortunately this leads to other problems. The 2 wheel axle needs 70% of the weight..preferable down low. So rear axle will lift the front and the steering is gone. A front setup will have crazy steering friction under braking and will most likely have more body roll. I think front axle trike need a proper pinion rack and steering wheel. So a morgan for front axle trikes. T rex is an option but in my opinion the center of gravity is rear based and plus to much a cage. The algorithms helped me out on this problem.
