Here's a nice pair of general purpose pliers at a great price. If you don't have a pair of Knipex pliers, this would be a good place to start. The tethered version was the cheapest option, but if you really don't like the loop, the other versions aren't much more.

Knipex's cutting power and durability always rates well in every review I've seen. I think Knipex pays closer attention to metallurgy than most manufacturers, and it shows.

The side cuts use to be on ebay for around $20. But even $50 would be reasonable. I yanked out at least 15-20k cotter pins with the same pair. Then cut the new installed ones. I can't recommend any other tool for that abuse. The shop set were shared and never lost....that valuable!

Did you happen to use a Raptor for tie rods? They look like they'd work well.

Those are nice. No tied rods just way to many trailer hubs and other pins for whatever. Most big cotters were snowplow pins. We fixed the unfixable. Such as siezed pivot pins on dump truck tilts. Installs, maintenance and repair at a mom and pop. The only reason for tie ends or ball joints was because the frame broke. But there was a pattern and that was one deal that kept us busy. All gm wreckers broke the frame, ford escapes blowing out the shock towers ect Endless work for a hitch and trailer shop. Endless stories. The knipex was as legit in the northern salt belt.
