What are people running for gearing? I've been all over the place, 13/48, 14/51,14/48 and right now I'm running the stock 14/45 but the bike's use has changed. For multiple years it was my everything bike, dual sport rides, tight gnarly PNW single track all of it. I have a Beta 300RR for the tight stuff now and I have a 1090R for the big distance offroad.

The 500 is now the light ADV, 2 track, mild single track, dual sport type stuff. I've ridden flowy single without issue but it is probably a little harder on the clutch.
I like rolling down the road at 60 with ease but I think this motor will take more highway rpm than I give it credit.
What do you think?

I have a 15/45 combo on hand I am about to mount up, I'll try and remember to post here about how it works for me.

does an 09 530 exc count in the 500 thread? I'll need to do a teardown fairly soon due to debris on the oil filter (aluminum sparklies) other than that a fun bike to ride. Aftermarket seems kinda thin though. Any good sources?

I would say it qualifies, both the 530 and the 500 are actually 510cc and share the same bore and stroke. The 530s are outside of the manufacturers 10yr window for parts support so it's starting to dry up a bit but there's still parts, they're just just harder to find sometimes. With the KTM interchangeability lots of stuff works from other models. Congrats on the new bike.

I've seen riding pics from NZ when it was clear and it's pretty spectacular, I'd trade a couple crappy riding days for that any time but I'd probably end up riding off a cliff while enjoying the view :lol3
