Somewhere in central Mexico. This thing was very sketchy. We went over what we would do if it began to sink. You can see a canoe in this picture, it was tied to the ferry but it broke free after a short distance. So we had to come up with plan B. Pull boots and riding gear off, so we could swim.

When we pulled up, the dirt road dead ended into the water. The ferry was not lined up with the road. We asked the guys if they ferry was running. We are not fluent in Spanish and there were some struggles. It was cold, raining and the guys really did not want to leave the little shack on the back of the ferry. After nearly an hour of standing in the rain, they came out and started doing repairs to the motor. The steering is hydraulic and the belt had broken on the pump. After a bit of fussing, they got it steering again. In the photo below, you can see the three belts that go to the drive unit. They placed a stick through the center so they could catch the belts when they pop off. I think we were down to one belt when we got to the other side.

Had my SV650 tied down on the fantail. Somewhere between Argentia, NL and North Sydney, NS, back in 2000. It was subjected to some salt spray, as it was a bit rough that day.
