Nevada BDR trip

I’m a pretty new off road rider. I’ve got a DR650 and am fascinated by the NV BDR trails.

Is there any advice you can give me about what sorts of skills on the bike I should be practicing to be ready for the trip? What sorts of obstacles should I be aware of?

Thanks. I’m currently working on my sand and gravel riding. Learning how to control my skids.

Put on a good set of knobbies and have at it! Experience is the best teacher.
Remember, it was designed for 600# BMW cows. A DR packed lighty-ish will be a cake walk.

If you do go by yourself, don’t take any undue risks, keep an eye on the weather and bring a Spot or equivalent tracker with you. Also bring more water than you think you need…

pack a good tool kit, spares, and practice fixing your bike with only those tools

Garmin InReach or similar is a must, know how to use it.

+3 on the InReach. Not alot in Nevada, EXCEPT awesome riding!! I went down from Austin last June. Also preload the BDR route on some sort of GPS or Phone app. I use Guru Pro and follow a line on a old iPhone 6s. It's very easy to get lost out in the middle of nowhere! And theres alot of nowhere in NV! Do It!! You'll love it, especially on a DR650
