For those of you that ride trails or otherwise venture into the backcountry, adding a RECCO Rescue Reflector to your kit may be a good idea. Here's a brief review from Cris Hazzard.

There are backpack, helmet & belt models, in addition to gear that comes with a reflector built in. The system has been used for decades and is branching out from snow sports. It's an unpowered device that can't have a dead battery, and all it needs from the user is to be worn properly. The number of SAR organizations using RECCO technology is increasing.

It's not a replacement for an EPIRB, PLB, SEND, or phone, but I see it as another way to be found, even if all of your battery powered devices are dead and you're unconscious. At $40 & 6 grams, that's not a bad deal.

Sure seems like it.

It's also fundamentally what I think could be a big help to improving safety with self-driving cars. Use inexpensive, anonymous radar beacons on all road users, with self-drivers pinging those targets. That has the potential for far better conspicuity than any visible light system. Unfortunately, Tesla ditched radar, so that's a hurdle to a universal radar beacon system.
