Check out Itchy Boots, she's riding on a 300 cc bike now in Honduras/ El Salvador... Bigger then those 50cc bikes but no 1200+ either.... 😄
I'll trade horsepower ( a nebulous measurement in any event) for fuel mileage and nimble handling any old day.

I've toured around some on my DRZ. 1000 miles a pop. Retiring soon so I may do a cross-country back roads tour for the summer.
Check out the YouTube vlogs of Charlie Sinewan or SoyTribu (turn on Gringo subtitles if not Spanish-speaking) to see just how useless some big adventure bikes can be in real-world situations...without an army of support personnel to rescue you.

By "1000 miles a pop" do you mean 1000 mile-long outings, broken up in to multiple days? Certainly not IBA 1000 miles in a day, right? How many miles do you typically log in a day?

Yes, my longest trip was about 1400 miles over 5 days. I can do about 2-300 miles a day without too much drama. Longer than that and it is an uncomfortable place to be. Even with Adventure High bars, a Fisher seat, and SM pegs.

It's all a matter of perspective. For some people 400cc is a small bike. For me its a two up touring bike
Its more than just the engine size. A DRZ400 is a reasonably light bike. My 400 is much bigger and heavier.
