US Army TC 9-237, similar to the machineringist one uploaded in that thread, provides a great starting point for knowledge learning stuffs.

If you don't know how to weld and are looking to get started, DON'T start with the cheapest MIG machine you can buy, it will make you hate life.

Do just jump right into learning how to TIG weld :pimp

Kind of just to bump the thread, but after welding for decades I finally bought a modern hood.
A Lincoln something or other. I can take or leave the auto dark, but even After just a short test, the head gear seems all day comfortable and the optical clarity is a real game changer for my old eyes.

Nice Bump.

I have several hoods, two of them are Miller Digital Elites.

I upgraded the gear to the new Gen 3.5 headgear, which was a huge improvement

now I see there is a Gen 4 available from Miller.

yea for years I used the old paper Huntsman hoods.
Weld in the rain, throw them in a gang box where someone would throw some torch hose on top of them.
The next morning trying to weld without getting your ear sunburned because the hood was so distorted.

I used to make motorcycle parts until one day when an interior designer asked me to make some steel tables for her client. Then I went into the furniture making business (loads more cash in furniture than in bike parts). The steel portion of what I make are usually just in the frame and / or legs of tables. Also do my own powdercoating....

Back when I was gonna be the Rearset King, I used to make rearsets. Could only sell them for about $200 and I had about that much in them. Another great idea that failed.
Used the stock shift lever as it took too long to make them.
So I started to make stainless steel bar ends that weighed about a pound each. Sold tons of those things but got bored making them so I quit.

Catenary and exponential functions:
Any nonelastic, uniform cable held at its ends will droop in the shape of a catenary. As shown here, the catenary is asymptotic in the negative and positive directions to graphs of, respectively, exponential decay (y = ex/2) and exponential growth (y = ex/2).
