This is the Cap Chat Aeolian, on Canada's Gaspe Peninsula, the largest vertical axis wind turbine in the world. 310 feet (94 m) tall, 210 feet (64 m) wide and producing 4 megawatts. It went into service in 1987 and ceased operation in 1993 because of damage to its large, expensive, rotational bearing. This photo is circa 1995; that's my BMW K75S, Uma, in the left foreground. Uma was my intro into BMW, ABS, hard luggage, heated grips and the motorcycle touring accoutrement that make travel pleasant. Unfortunately, she also came with clunky shifting, limited power (but smooooooth) and constantly warping front rotors.
Pretty, though, even through today's lens.
