Newport, Virginia. Many years ago when I was hiking the AT with friends, we stayed in there one night during a freezing rain storm.

While returning to the MABDR route, I crossed this bridge:

I didn't know about this soldier so I checked. He was a LRRP (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol) with the 75th Rangers. He rests at Arlington, Section 36 Site 1313:

His mom said he was "the ideal son, brother and friend."

I used to go to school in Twinsburg, did you get to or near there? That's where I learned to dislike high school--except for welding, graphic arts, machine shop, the gym, and football! :lol3
I don't remember if I went through twinsburg but I was near there. My ride report for that trip is here: https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/...-the-rocket-city.647784/page-78#post-35164104

My ride report for my last trip to that area is here: https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/...the-rocket-city.647784/page-115#post-37860841

That's very interesting.

Have you ever read "SOG: Secret Wars of America's Commandos in Vietnam" by John L. Plaster? It's one of the greatest books I've ever read.

I haven't but will check it out. One of my childhood friends was SOG and he died recently. Agent Orange related cancer.
