What's new

Africa Twins CRF1000L

So....I need a set of fork seal covers. Tired of dealing with leaking seals.

What's everyone using to keep dirt out? :ear

I have the Kriega ones that wrap around with velcro then a zip tie to hold them in place. Nothing special about them really I was ordering a Kriega bag and added the seal covers to the cart.

Need a skid plate? Reduced price from Givi USA via ebay.

So...after watching one of the latest Brett Tkacs videos, the one where his foot peg snapped off during a log crossing, I started to worry that I might experience the same problem. Especially, since I weigh at least twice as much as he does!

So, I ordered a Camel foot peg brace. Now I just need to get motivated to install it.

Anyone have a peg break?

I know there have been several due to crashes, but his was the first instance I saw where it was simply from rider weight (unless, it was already structurally compromised from prior falls).

And...a picture. Everyone like pictures! Somewhere deep in the Hiawatha National forest...

Back in early June just west of Westcliff, CO.

Did a little exploring, but ended up turning around. Lots of loose rock and the wrong back tire.

A little closer to the house and some pavement riding a couple of days ago. Quick ride to beat the pop-up storms.

Riding through the corn fields is like a corn maze for vehicles!

Creek crossing are always interesting. Larger crossings like this have about 200 feet of elevation change for entering and departing in this part of Kentucky.

Shadowy areas too.

And, a point of interest at the back side of the courthouse.

Slab'd up to Pembroke, Kentucky to grab the Jefferson Davis Monument tag for another thread. Took the boys here probably 20+ years ago. It's a nice view from up top.

Then on the way back, stopped for a picture with proudly waving flags. This is at the American Legion #29 in Russelville, Kentucky.

And on the way back to the house, I encountered a fork in the road east of Franklin, Kentucky.

It'll be a while before my AT gets in the dirt. Pretty-much the norm for me when I'm not out west.

Any first gen AT experiences to be told?

I've got sprockets and a chain to install anytime. Also, an oil and filter change to be completed.
I have a 16. Pretty sure I am going to sell it this Spring. It has 22K miles and has been great with zero issues.

Have you had your AT since '16, or so? Will you replace it with another bike?
Yes, I bought it new in 16. I have a habit of keeping my old bikes when I buy new ones. I have 2012 Super Tenere, a 2016 AT, and a two year old Tenere 700 among other bikes. I would keep the two Teneres. Not looking for another bike at this point.

I've got 30K+ miles on my '16.

I've ridden the Continental Divide Trail, the Lake Superior Circle, and the MABDR on it.

Been to the Black Hills, Wyoming, Colorado, and Moab on it, amongst other places.

Planning to ride the TAT on it this coming spring.

My goal is to put 100K miles on it! :ricky

Definitely some good riding there! Any chance you have a thread or blog for those adventures?

Back in '21 I base camped just outside of Rapid City. Rode day adventures for about five days.

Here's a pic entering the Badlands at the west side entrance.

I've got a couple of ride reports on that other site. Same user name.

I've also got a couple of cheesy videos on my YouTube "channel". :shog

Search for what else...."Yooper Bob"

After my first big trip, I made a conscious decision to "be in the moment" while on these trips, rather than trying to document every last detail to post on the interwebs.

The purpose of the trip is for "me" to experience it.... not capture it all for others to enjoy.

It totally changes how you approach and experience a trip. To truly capture it in word and pictures (or video), your focus has to be on planning how to go about getting the "best shot" and recording all of the relevant details, rather than just focusing on the adventure at hand.
