- Week Newkirk, Oklahoma Area Ride

Newkirk Chilocco Ride 9-23-2023

My grandson’s football team was scheduled to play against Newkirk. Newkirk is a couple of hours away and in an area I don’t often visit. I decided to take my bike and do some exploring after the game.

I first stopped at some of the old buildings downtown.

I witnessed to some of the inmates at the county jail.

I cruised to the small town of Peckham, where they have an unusual city hall.

A couple of abandoned grain elevators north of Peckham.

Kay Wind Farm. I always send at least one selfie to my grandsons.

I crossed the state line into Kansas.

A large, abandoned store and gas station on the corner of the Kansas state line and the bypassed Highway 77.

Back in Oklahoma, the closed Chilocco Indian School. I couldn’t find a way in.

A late lunch at the Seven Clans Travel Plaza. I splurged today and got the wedges too.

The road along the river ended here.

Back in town, this train barreled by at probably 70mph. It took me by surprise, even scared me a bit.

It was a short but interesting ride.
