Actually I’d lean seriously towards a Husky 501/KTM 500/ Honder 450L. If forced into a buying decision today, Beta 390.

Both of the recent pics you posted came across as 'requesting moderation' and they shouldn't need it ...... how are you posting those out of curiosity?

Serious want.

Need is like another hole in my head.

Is that the Sherco?

That’s my TRS X Track 250, it’s wicked nice.
I still haven’t decided if I’m parting with my X Ride.

Before you decide which bike you need to decide how much shit you plan on packing for the trip. While a 450ish thumper is a great choice for the terrain it’s ability to carry a lot of gear is lacking.

Just something to consider.

If I had to ride it as soon as the weather is worthy, I'd do it on my Super Tenere. I have it, I'm comfortable on it. Ideal bike? Probably T7 or 7/890

I agree with MVI on the 450/500cc bike size. The TAT stays away from the Interstates and has plenty of dirt road. Then there are the more difficult alt sections to consider. It has been proven that it can be completed on almost any bike. But IMO the fun factor and versatility of the 450/500 makes it a great choice.

+2 on the mid 500dro'ish bike. I did from the Pacific Ocean to Colorado last year and it was a serious chore on my 1190R. I dont regret it but we had to turn back in Utah in Lock Hart Basin and another place at the top of a mountain because of weather. The bikes were to big, the temps to hot..108+..and the terrain to gnarly for the big bikes packed out. Now, we could have done it but it would have been miserable, so we turned back after about 30 miles in going south out of Moab. The shelves we 2 feet + just get up them.

Picture is where we turned back in Lock Hart basin. So hot and sand so deep. The steps so high. Time for a beer in Moab
