Kawasaki KLX250 / KLX300 Thread

Yeah, I like the 605’s too. I forgot how much smoother they are on pavement. Obviously better grip too.
I replaced the rear with a Tusk dual sport at 3500 miles and just ordered a Dunlop D605F for the install at 4500 miles. I’m going back to a Dunlop rear 605 when the Tusk wears out.

Why are you switching back? I’m not familiar with the Tusk tires.

I almost traded my 1st drzsm for a 2096 klx250 even! The 230klx has me more entriguided now. Ihate radiators in the woods.

Klx230 pr cft250f...or a templar with the old crf230 motor. Ahh I call these crappy little mule bikes..that last forever and have a heart of a trials bike. The drz crosses that threshold. The DR zee is the best bike..just contact Eddie while you can The klx250 shod be gold.. I just need to ride one.

The ultate vs should be xr650l vs a "modern" klx. Ha all roads and trails ...I might choose the 230
..and drag walk around or ride over anything

I don’t really need the slightly more aggressive Tusk tire and it is louder than the Dunlop 605. I just putter around the back roads which doesn’t require an aggressive tire. The Tusk dual sport and Dunlop 605 tires are both reasonably priced.

Tusk tire vs. Dunlop…….top picture is the stock tire.

I hit 18k a few weeks ago. And before whisperquiet shames me again, no I still haven’t checked the valves. :D

At this point I’ve been telling myself that I’m just going to take it to a shop and have them do it but it’s been such a mild winter the favorable forecasts will be my excuse.

I got a little over 14K on mine and haven't checked the valves yet either. I was planning on taking it to a shop this winter but never got around to it.

I'd shoot for 20K, just because

Had a good trip last year DJ_MI. The 300SM with the dirt wheels did well. Back in '18 I tried to get up to Hayden Pass on the AT with some 50-50 tires and ended up turning around--lost traction and momentum.

The 300SM with the dirt wheels and TKC80s did really well. Rode up Phantom Canyon to Cripple Creek and down Shelf Road with the bro-in-law whom rode a KLX230. It local riding. We rode a charity event out of Fremont Motorsports in Florence, CO and took Oak Creek Grade rather than the paved roads everyone else took to Westcliffe, CO.

Also rode up to Hayden Pass. Rode back the same way to US-50.

That's awesome! What an adventure. From the pictures on your blog I can see why the AT with mild tires wasn't cutting it. That's some rough loose terrain on those climbs. I know how pictures dumb down the terrain and the pictures look serious so I'm sure it was way worse in person.

Great ride and ride report. Thanks! 👍

And look at jwaller making an appearance too! How've you been? :)

Been doing well. And busy. I have traded my CRF250RX for a Beta XTrainer and still have a CRF450L as my dual sport. But I like to occasionally keep up on the KLX300 too. How many miles have you got to yet? And still without a valve adjustment? Just curious.
