What's new

+ Week Rocket Science and other Riding Tales

I think the silo looks pretty rad! $575 per weekend. I dunno if that's two or three nights, but I'd be happy to pay that vs renting a hotel that back to the hood and worrying if my bike will be where I left it come morning.
That's for two nights. The cost per night goes down if you stay longer because there is a cleaning fee and a AirBnB fee.

Last week I went to Mountain View Motorcycle Campground in Elk Park NC for an event called Bradfest III. I went to Bradfest I & II last year and had a great time. Four of the "Usual Suspects" that i ride with regularly also went. The name Bradfest is because the 2 guys who set it up are named Brad.

I left home around 8:30 CT and got there around 4:30 ET. I picked up a sandwich on the way and ate that for dinner. Then I set up camp and socialized some.

That night for a change I slept great in my tent and woke up ready to go Thursday morning.

I had a ride planned for Thursday which wouldn't be too long or hard since I expected 2 long rides on Friday and Saturday.

I met a british guy there who had shipped his bike to Toronto (I think) and was headed to the west coast, Alaska and then South America. This was Demon:

His bike is a well setup KTM 690.

Randy, Stephen, Natalee and Jim rode to Roan mountain and stopped for gas where we saw this interesting truck. The owner said it's a diesel and gets 40 MPG.

Then we rode to the top of Roan Mountain and stopped for a pic.

We rode down the NC side of Roan Mountain and then rode NC80 which is one of my favorite twisty roads. I rode most of the way through with Stephen and Randy on my tail. Stephen and Randy were running their Go Pro's and I'm expecting some great footage

More pavement on the way to lunch.

Our lunch stop. Good food, good service and reasonable prices.

We rode another of my favorite twisty roads followed by exploring a gravel road.

And then back to pavement.

We made it an easy day because we expected two hard days of riding to follow......we had no idea!

Here's a video from this day's ride.

We rode back to the campground and the riding wasn't over. this campground (Mountain view Motorcycle Campground) Is also a adventure riding training center. There are two ways up to the upper campground and training area. there is a gravel road and an "interesting" trail. Stephen decided he needed to ride up the trail. There is video and I'll post a link when I find it but until then I have some pics:

And coming back down.

There is not enough cell signal at the lower part of the campground to make a call (Verizon) but there is if you walk up the hill so I did that and called my wife. I also took advantage of the nice view.

Of course it was even better than usual this weekend with the invasion of the Usual Suspects!!!

It was a real mix of roads and scenery.

Our leader hit some fine, hard to see gravel and went down.

No ambulance or tow truck was needed to see continued on.

We stopped again. Someone behind me had crashed on a muddy trail. Again no ambulance or tow truck needed but that rider and another bailed out a little later leaving us with 11 riders.

We got to our lunch stop around 2 so everyone was hungry. No food pics but I got some outside.
