What's new

- Week Our rides today.

I was out on the RS over the weekend for the first time this season. Put on a little over 550 km. The back roads still have a lot of sand leftover from the winter, so I stuck to the salt routes, as they are washed clean from the spring rains. After 167 days, it’s good to be back.

Looks quite flat in that area. Is this generally true for northern AL?
(I've been there but it was too long ago for me to recall the geography.)

I still have an itch to visit AL again. I want to check out the Barber museum and the Civil Rights landmarks (even better, the lesser known points of interest).

The area I was riding was mostly flat but there are some small mountains in NE Alabama. The highest mountain in ALabama is Mt Cheaha at 2413 feet. While our mountains are not very high they do provide some super steep and twisty roads. The riding in Alabama is not as good as the mountains farther east in TN, GA, and NC but it is still pretty good. Many of my local rides go up into middle Tennessee which has few mountains but is very hilly.

Here's a video showing some of our riding. Skip ahead to around 4:20.

I recently bought a’23 Honda CT125. This is the first year they have been available in Canada. I’ve had a’77 CT90 for years, but don’t use it much as its a decent example, and I don’t what to beat on a 46 year old little bike.
Here’s a few pictures from around home today, Deer Island NB.

The local Cycle Gear had a bike night today so I rode over. There wasn't much of interest except for a couple of vintage bikes.

The ride home was more interesting as the sun was setting and I found a couple of places to take some pics.

The pic above was taken with my phone and the one below with my camera.

Then I rode a few miles and found another spot.

Hmm, I'm highly interested in that Street Triple. :-)

Last weekend I went to the local Bikes & Breakfast gathering ... lots of nice bikes, from a fully 'blinged' Harley full-dresser to a whole gaggle of current Triumphs. Here are some pics.

I waited until the last minute to post up a local dual sport ride. I posted late afternoon yesterday for a 9 AM meeting this morning. I wasn't sure anyone would show up but....

We talked a bit and headed into the nearby Wheeler Wildlife refuge.

We weren't the only ones out on the road.

Large parts of the wildlife refuge are loaned out to farmers for a portion of the proceeds. These farm fields are beneficial to birds which is the main reason for this refuge.

P5130033 (2).JPG

There is a lot of water on the refuge. Although I haven't seen any there are reports of alligators here.

Our final stop was in the middle of interstate 65.

We were done a little after noon and 4 of us went to a local restaurant for lunch.

That trail 125 looks like an absolute blast. The only problem for me is that all of the 125cc Honda mini motos look like a blast and it will be hard to choose just one!
Yes, I know what you mean. We don't have the Super Cub in Canada, that's probably a good thing. If it was, the pearl grey colour that is offered in the US for 2023, would have made for a difficult decision. If it comes to Canada in the future, I'd like to have one.

That tote box on the pannier is a fascinating example of somehow working well, sort of the opposite end of the spectrum of a KLR w/ milkcrate, which while working fine, is so breathtakingly awful that it earns respect. Which means this totebox on a motorcycle thing is clearly happening in a complicated parametric space.

(Have all my stuff set to head out on May 30- another loop from Baltimore up thru NY, VT, NH and back south via coastal Maine- see you all out there! )

I rode one of my old favorite roads last week.

Tatham Gap id a very twisty gravel road that is also known as the Gravel dragon. I was a little surprised when I saw this coming the other way.

I stopped and took a few pics of a scenic spot.

This spot has a really high steep dropoff.

Here's a weekend ride report: Last Thursday I rode up to Lake George, NY, to spend a couple of days at Americade doing demo rides, just for fun. I rode about 16 bikes over two days, from the BMW R18 Classic to the Moto Guzzi V100 Mandelo. The ride up was slab-only, but on the way back I wandered down Rt 4, make stops when something called to me. Then I took the Taconic Parkway, which is both fun and fast. Of course, making my way home involves patiently making my way through traffic - paying my debt for having fun outside of the city.

Last morning at my campsite.

A bike I never thought I'd ride, but what the hell!

Even some wild cars show up to Americade, turns out.

The Saratoga Battlefield (site of a major defeat for British).

Proof that I rode some pretty cool bikes!

wristBands-img_1038-3000px.jpg

Almost every bike I rode - missing are two that I liked the most, the BMW M1000R and the MG V100 Mandelo, and the Tracer 900 GT, which was surprisingly disappointing.
