Then, please tell me what your motivation is when becoming a mod, it makes little sense to me? Again, I understand why a person would do it for money, they're underemployed, and it's a side hustle, but as a volunteer? If you want to volunteer, go do something more productive like meals on wheels, or a food bank.

Because VS was taking over the old site, something needed to be done to help build a new community. The extent of my moderation on this site has been to merge a couple duplicate threads and move a couple threads to a better place. Conciser us more as janitors than overloads. I hope to help build a community that is better than the old site.

Looked back on ADV rider, and IMO (YOMV) the Vomit bile factory which is CSM is still up and as toxic and unpleasant as it ever was.
But a quick look around generally over there and i do think its slowed down a lot, I was Banned in January i think ban up on April the 9th IIRC ADV has changed a lot in that time and certainly in the non sewage sections of the site. I think another three months could just bring about an even more significant change over there.
But ADV does deliver in CSM and its toxicity and bile its just as steaming yellow and disgusting as it ever has been.

I had no idea that it even existed until someone brought it up in the thread on ADVr about VS buying the forum. That was a big reason I left. I was disillusioned to discover the level of hatred and animous exhibited by the members there. Were these the same people who I''d be talking to in the on-topic subforums? The same people who's RRs I'd been following? Wishing death upon some guy who caught some covids. Seeing mods joining right in.

Up till then I thought it was this near perfect utopia of riders. People who spent time compiling a map of all the people offering a place for strangers to stay.

There are a pretty large number of people on ADVr who I interact with regularly and a fair number who I know in person. I have done some snooping around in CSM and I have found most of the people who are active there and especially the Asshats spend the majority of their time there. I have not found any of the people I regularly interact with to be active there. They may have a few posts there but they aren't active. One of the things I like about the software at ADVr is that you can pull up your profile and click on areas and see exactly how many posts you have in each area of the forum. I looked at mine and found I have close to 200 posts in CSM What? I almost never post there I figured out that I posted in a number of threads that got moved there.

I looked at the profiles of some of the Asshats in CSM and clicked on areas and for the most part the majority of their posts are in CSM. I wondered if they even rode motorcycles

This forum has an equivalent section to CSM called Controversial Idealogies. I wasn't going to get involved there but I did. I wanted to find out if there were some people here capable of discussing controversial topics without becoming assholes. I was very happy to see that there are. I don't mind discussing something with someone I disagree with if it's a civil discussion. Most of the time we can find some common ground and often we can agree on a fair amount. When someone presents things in a civil and rational manner it makes me think about it and I might even look at the topic in a new light and change my opinion. When someones arguement is that I am an idiot for believing what I do then they are just reinforcing what I believe.

It appears to me that many if not most of the people who post in CI are here mostly to talk motorcycles and they don't spend that much time in CI. That's the way it should be.

Well over there the ads are now every 2 posts..fucking annoying...I never click on ads so its lost on me..and prolly many others...Like I said earlier the local tag and chatter games..even ADVr weekly lunches have all stopped..its like a VS wasteland already.. All the regulars are MIA..they may still be on the site but they no longer contribute to the games or the friendly banter that also has fallen by the wayside...and in fact had been declining for several years before the aquisition by VS. So much content that ended up being toxic...I no longer subscribe to those threads..The TriTor game has not been active since Jan. and we have had ample opportunities on ideal weather days to get out there and move the tag..no go...I dont know where everyone went but it reminded me of the time I joined the Aprilia forum a couple yrs ago..I put up this big introduction and I got nothing..not one person read it or welcomed me..6 Months later I went back to see aand only 1 person actually responded to my thread...This is not good and I left the Aprilia site and have not returned..turns out its owned and run by....VS

Well said. After I stumbled into CSM I found myself checking the "Areas" tab in user profiles. My sentiment grade of ADVr was A++ before I discovered CSM, after I'd give it a D+.

Yeah, I try to stay out of CI but I'm like a moth to a candle. I'm only going to get burned but I still can't resist.
Frankly, I wouldn't miss it if they decided to can CI. Why can't a community be free of controversy, idealogies and especially controversial ideaoligies?

I was on a local forum that had an interesting solution to this "basement" problem. There was no CSM but there was a basement where non motorcycle stuff could be discussed. In order to post there you had to have a certain number of posts upstairs and had to maintain a certain ratio of post upstairs compared to the "basement". I forget the details of how that worked but it kept away those people who weren't there to mostly talk about motorcycles.

I'm a supporter. I renewed for a year just before the VS takover so I'm good to go until next Dec.

I don't know that I will renew as a supporter but I paid for a year before the takeover. That gives me plenty of time to decide what to do. Maybe I'll try an ad blocker. I have a lot of friends on that forum and am still very active. If things start to do downhill I expect most of my friends will come over here. At this point none of them have complained about the VS takeover and if I hadn't told them many wouldn't even know. I think ADVr is so big it will keep going strong longer than many have predicted.

Right now I get a lot more response to my posts on ADVr than I do here. On the other hand since coming here I have been interacting with a lot of people I never interacted with there. ADVr is so big it's impossible to know everyone. This place is smaller and if you are active you will get to know many of the other active members because is is a smaller forum. That, of course will change as the forum grows but I think it's pretty cool to be in before that happens.

I have been telling people about this forum and that I am here but I'm not trying to push them here either. I am trying to do my part to help this forum grow but at the same time I'm not trying to help kill the other one.

With the best will in the world , i myself can never imagine that CI could ever take on a mantle even slightly resembling CSM... no way.
CSM is a toxic bilious midden born out of a unique mixture of piss poor moderation fueled by every other unpleasant aspect of human nature and humanish beings that are equally ill informed as they are opinionated intolerant and damn right offensive to the extreme, add to this moderator clique emulsion being rife in CSM thus removing any effective control CSM morphed into the Toxic zoo it is to this day.
I strongly suspect that the Moderation on this and most sites on the internet would stamp any such toxic environment like CSM ever reaching chrisalis form never mind evolving into the toxic moth that is ADV riders CSM.

Not banned yet, but there's still hope. It took me 17 years to get my first banning. Maybe I have some catching up to do.
Edit to add.. And I think the fact that I went 17 years without getting banned, behaving like I always have, and then having it happen last year, shows how the place has changed.

The fact ADV rider has/ had been established 20 years and had some good active threads running more or less from the outset, this ensured its popularity with so many.
But even as long ago as ten years ADV rider was starting gto see decline this was typical of all forums.
Facache and where the TWITS post etc stole forums thunder and helped advance their decline generally.
Its a shame in a way because many forums which contained a wealth of information and knowledge just turned into ghost towns, and the Jump to Faceache was never going to be more than a picture posting look at me bragging platform or chatroom which even in group form was just too hard to navigate or follow and share knowledge . Forums win hands down with revisit able threads proper in specialist boards/ sections, way better for info than a post with contributors you have to wade through that gets lost in a wealth of other group threads requiring endless scrolling and searching.
In a way the fact ADV bikes is here the fact it exists at all in this day and age is good, and it has the potential i believe to thrive and grow as a platform contributors can share help contribute learn and be entertained from.
I am not knowledgeable in the social media platforms to know accurately which ones are faring the best as in whats the most popular at the moment, but there clearly is a popularity very much in these sites.
ADV rider is i believe living very much on its history, the old threads still see some contributors but nothing like in times past, if you look on olds cool at many of the picture threads , they are barely active, and many who contributed much historicaly got sick and tired of ADVRiders shit and Left the building. I am of the opinion we will see more of this in the not too distant future. time will tell.

The “moderators” at advrider.com ARE the problem…….moderators have become dominators, name callers, and demean anyone who does not conform to their thought process ( and allow, aid, and support their sycophants). I believe most people are moderate….either slightly left, slightly right, and in the center. It is too bad the loud mouths from both the left/right extremes dominate online. As has been noted before….people aren’t quite as obnoxious in an in person social setting. I don’t like Trump or Biden and wish a true moderate ran things…..unlikely, I am sure.

I am not disputing what anyone here has said about the mods on ADVr but in the 14 years I have been on the forum I have not had any serious issues with the mods. Sure a few of my posts ended up in Head Explody and a thread or two were moved to the basement. I think the moderation outside the basement is less of an issue than in the basement particularly CSM. At least that seems to be true in the areas where I spend time.

I am happy the way things are set up here and the way things are going for the most part. Yes there a few people trying to bring CSM to CI but most of the people participating there have been acting like adults. Furthermore CI is not the most active part of the forum like CSM seems to be.

I Knowv some of the the moderation certainly in the basement on ADV rider is, very much pro the CSM toxic clique posters that troll the boards down there.
It makes not a single jott if a person posts politely and even gains ground or stands up to the toxic CSMers, If it looks like your winning . there will 100% guaranteed be Ban trumped up and trust me the cap will fit and you are gone for the duration, at least until the clique on CSM get chance to shed their embarrassment. and If you return to said thread to administer the metaphorical coup de grass , you are looking at a month or multiple months ban with terms like "Dickery" included in some meaningless drivel from some half baked moderator .
Any form of justice even if you peruse your own agenda within rules , is never accepted on CSM . Its ca No win situation down there.
and the pathetic part about the joke moderation in CSM is the fact real moderation when actively required never ever takes place. its that toxic.

another aspect of CSM is that of Religeon (forgive me because it is a broad church Christian catholic budist whatever) which by the very board title of CSM is within the remit. there is a fairly large contingent of CSMers with a few notable in their number who are virulently opposed to any informed debate on aspects of beliefs spiritual or doctrine, and go out of their way to wreck/ destroy anyone who tries to explain or share with any enqueuing members on relevant threads.
They Troll the boars leaping on anyone attempting to spread or explain to others any aspects of religion.
The explanation for such atheist troll behavior from such CSMers is a obvious and simple one. they are shit scared of anything to do with any religion, the sort of attitude is we dont understand that so kill it anyway mentality, and they have neither the interlect to understand any of this so they hate and destroy it anyway because they are clearly very frightened.
