MVI, and any others that went with the IMS tank--how often do you cuss that decision? My fuel economy is around 50-55 mpg. So, I've been wondering how often I'd be wishing for 4 gallons instead of 3 gallons, but that Nomad is much less attractive than the IMS in pics. And it is a bit more work to drain, so the 4 gallons isn't quite a full 4. The stock tank is starting to be a hindrance, so I'd like to do something here.

Thanks!

IMS is a no brainer for me.,

I like to ride Texas, so 3 gallons max with my size, tool, etc is a lot.
3 gal = 112 miles in best case at 670' foot elevation (ASL)

in Colorado at 9000' ASL with vortex and FMF I get much better mileage , 150 mi/ 3 gal tank

but if i head out to Creed or something , I still carry a 1 gal RPAX

here I am in Big Bend, 3 gal IMS and a 1 Gal RPAX

4 gallon seems right, if you need more , pack gas in used gator-aide bottles...

I'll add , I have had a dream to ride across Australia some day, then I want the 5 gal tank, in the stock tank location. PLUS SOME GAS...

Everyday use, the 3g is about perfect. plus I c[UWSL]an pack a + 2.75g in a rear rack , so 5.75G in total. I have a pic for this, but not on this particular computer...[/UWSL]

Ping me if you want a pic....

Great info, thanks! I'll probably just go with the IMS, then.

Since you still have the stock tank installed, would you take some measurements so I can compare it with the 20L Nomad?

I'm a little surprised that the Nomad site doesn't provide some measurements for shoppers to compare the stock, 15L, and 20L tanks. I know the Nomads take up more space than OE, but I suspect it looks worse in photos than it really is

Sure thing. What measurements do you want? I'm guessing overall width , overall height?

Riding in Utah on an Everide adventure rally. There’s a guy on a T7, two dudes on KTM 890s, Everide himself on a DRZ, and me in the 450L.

The first day was well groomed wide forest roads and pavement. Yesterday we got into some technical double track. One of the guys on the 890 commented that I was in my element yesterday. And that was true until we hit pavement. DOT knobbies aren’t the most confidence inspiring thing for high speed canyon carving!

Nice pictures. That looks like a lot of fun!

I get that. Thanks.

On the other hand, Public Roads are well, Public.

Some of the Utah ride:

I only got to ride in Utah on Monday and Tuesday. I had to leave the group on Wednesday, riding back to St. George alone to load up the bike and drive back to Texas due to a family emergency. Everything's okay, but having to leave two days into a week-long ride in dirt-bike heaven really, really sucked. Especially as the temperature back in Texas is 108F with relatively high humidity.

Now that I've sold my house and am mobile, living in a fifth wheel toy hauler, I will probably be spending my summers off in Utah. I can't describe enough just how beautiful it was and how great the weather was.

Too bad about the trip being cut short, but at least it was a good outcome.

Have you spent time in Utah in the spring or fall? Generally great weather, without the heat. In the summer, you can still get some relief from the heat if you base camp high in the mountains.
That was my first time in Utah. I'm sure that compared to the heat in TX, everywhere in Utah is a relief! I didn't think it was too hot in St. George, which was probably lowest elevation we got into there. But yeah, whenever I go back, I'll try to park the camper somewhere between Panguitch and Teasedale.
